Girl Scout News

I wanted to share with each of you something I learned recently that, quite honestly, surprised me.  For our daughters to be involved in Girl Scouts, it costs our council $300- 400 per girl.  That figure shocked me!

Every year, I am asked as a leader to approach my parents for donations to the Family Partnership Campaign.  In the past, I have passed out the letters, but never followed up on them; leaving it up to each of you to read the letter and make your own decision. Now that I know the facts, I am going to make a contribution and I am asking each of you to Commit to Girls by joining me in making a $7 donation per family.  Please read the following facts:

*      The $10 membership fee you pay when you register your daughter is sent to Girl Scouts USA to cover insurance and eligibility to participate in Girl Scout activities.

*      There are currently 23,500 Girl Scouts and 9,000 Girl Scouting Volunteers in the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council.

*      The $300 – 400 cost per girl includes training for adult leadership, program activities, instructional materials and to maintain camp properties and the Girl Scout Center.

*      Every dollar you contribute to the Family Partnership Campaign will go to support our council - Great Rivers Girl Scout Council.

*      Local United Ways, cookie sales, community sponsors and local corporations and foundations also help support girl scouts by contributing a major portion of the needed funds.

Everyone’s participation is important to help our council achieve their mission and goals for the Girl Scouting program.  I am a strong believer that girl scouting makes a difference in our daughters lives, helping them to develop the positive self image and strong decision-making skills necessary for future success.

As I stated earlier, in the past, I have not asked you to contribute.  This year, I would ask that each of you consider making a $7 (tax-deductible) donation.  You can bring a $7 check, made out to GSGRC, to our next meeting on April 20th.  Gretchen & I plan to contribute and hope that you will too.

Thank you very much!
